Project Manager | Space Sector | Edinburgh or Dundee | Hybrid (1-2 days per week in the office) | Up to £50,000

MERITUS are working with an exciting space software company looking for an R&D Project Manager to join. This hybrid role is ideal for someone ready to lead multi-partner research initiatives, shape future satellite technologies, and work at the intersection of engineering, research, and commercial strategy.

As R&D Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for managing complex, grant-funded software research programmes in the space and aerospace domains. Acting as a key interface between engineering teams, academic institutions, and funding bodies (such as ESA, Innovate UK, and Horizon Europe), you will lead projects that translate ambitious research into operational technology. Your ability to navigate uncertainty, manage budgets, and drive innovation will be critical to success in this high-impact position.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead multi-disciplinary R&D projects in space systems, coordinating internal and external technical teams
• Develop and maintain detailed project roadmaps, milestones, budgets, and reporting structures
• Engage with funding bodies and research partners to ensure compliance and alignment with grant requirements
• Drive early-stage technology development, from feasibility through to prototype and validation
• Facilitate collaboration across product, engineering, and commercial teams to align innovation with business goals

Skills Required:

• Proven track record managing R&D or software development projects in aerospace, space systems, or complex engineering environments
• Strong experience with Agile or hybrid project methodologies in research-focused settings
• Advanced financial management skills, especially around grant-funded programmes
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills in multi-partner collaborations
• Accredited project management qualification (PMP, PRINCE2, SAFe, or similar)
