Position: Senior or Principal Civil Engineer

Location Manchester

Contract: Outside IR35

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Civil Engineer to support key projects within the water industry. This role is available on either a Contract or Staff basis, and is ideal for professionals with a strong background in water-related civil engineering design and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver design outputs that meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
• Interpret project scopes and findings from site visits to propose efficient design solutions.
• Supervise and mentor CAD technicians, junior designers, and graduate engineers.
• Produce detailed design risk assessments, specifications, and reports.
• Ensure all design complies with technical, professional, and water industry standards.
• Record and implement all design changes within defined project parameters.
• Adhere to formal quality systems and procedures.
• Estimate hours required for specific design tasks.
• Present design proposals at ALMs, KMs, and other project review meetings.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of 10 years’ design experience in the water sector.
• Academic background in Civil Engineering: Degree, HND, or equivalent industry experience.
• Proficiency in IT tools relevant to engineering and design.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution and working towards chartership.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng MICE or equivalent).
• Strong experience in both clean and wastewater (dirty water) projects.
• Understanding of construction methods, materials, and engineering drawings.
• Demonstrated knowledge of water industry standards and practices.
