• Location: Tamworth, HQ-based
• Salary: £45,000–£55,000 (DOE) + benefits
• Hours: 08:30–17:00 Mon–Thu, 08:30–15:00 Fri
• Reports to: Managing Director
• Team: 5 direct (3 Technical Engineers, 1 Automation Manager + 1 Technician)

You will lead and develop our engineering and automation teams, working closely with the sales and project management functions. The role requires someone who can engage commercially, translate client needs into engineered solutions, and deliver design-level input into high-value capital projects.

Your Core Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Sales: Provide expert engineering support on capital sales projects before order confirmation, ensuring feasibility and accuracy
• Manage the Engineering Function: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers and automation specialists
• Bridge Teams: Act as the vital link between Sales, Engineering, and Project Delivery to maintain seamless communication and execution
• Support in CAD/Design: Use SolidWorks to support layout/design work as needed
• Oversee Project Handover: Guide the transition of engineering solutions from design into live project delivery
• Drive Technical Innovation: Champion best practices, improve process workflows and system design methodology
• Commercial Mindset: Make decisions aligned with cost, customer, and commercial expectations

Who We’re Looking For

• Proven technical leadership – ideally in a capital equipment or systems integration environment
• Strong commercial awareness with ability to engage in pre-sales project discussions
• Confident communicator – internally with teams and externally with customers
• Proficient with SolidWorks (or similar CAD)
• Familiarity with automation, controls or process systems beneficial
• A customer-first mindset with attention to quality and delivery
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-project SME environment
• Ideally degree-qualified in mechanical or systems engineering

Bonus if you have experience with:

• Solidworks
• Microsoft Business Central / Navision
• Capital machinery, plastics, temperature control or process industries
